The bulk of our development work is on WordPress. Not because we default to it, but because it is still the sensible answer when a business needs a familiar CMS, the plugin ecosystem, and something a marketing team can update without a developer holding their hand.

What we do differently is what we do not do. No premium themes. No page builders. Sites are hand-coded from the ground up with a lean set of plugins, chosen deliberately rather than out of habit. That is the difference between a WordPress site that runs fast, stays secure and holds up over five years, and a WordPress site that is a maintenance liability by year two.

If you have a WordPress site now and are asking whether it needs a rebuild, most of the time the answer is somewhere in the middle. A properly-scoped audit gives you a clear picture of what to keep, what to replace, and where the technical debt actually lives.

For anything selling online, Shopify is the sensible default. Modern infrastructure, a checkout that just works, sane payment processing, PCI compliance handled without you thinking about it. Every e-commerce site we build is fully custom on the front - no marketplace themes - with WooCommerce or Shopify Plus level customisation on the back where needed.

Common integrations: Klaviyo, Mailchimp, Zapier, ShipStation, Xero, third-party stock systems, custom middleware where an integration does not exist off the shelf. Google Merchant, Meta Pixel and paid-media tracking configured properly against real conversion events, not a guessed-at pixel fire.

When the store needs to sit inside a WordPress site rather than on Shopify, WooCommerce is the answer. Same principles as the rest of our WordPress work: hand-coded theme, minimal plugin surface area, checkout tuned for conversion, integrations handled at the code level rather than through a stack of add-ons that all update on their own schedules.

When the site needs to do something a standard CMS cannot handle, or when the business runs on tools that need to talk to the site properly, we build bespoke systems and integrations. Custom applications, CRM integrations, ERP syncs, API middleware, PDF and document automation, quote builders and lead-capture flows that the standard forms cannot do.

The two clearest examples on our books are QVIS and Delta-Xero. QVIS runs a full ERP integration with live sync of product data, stock levels and pricing straight from their internal system into the website, so nothing is re-keyed and nothing goes stale. Delta-Xero has automated case study PDFs (a visitor requests a specific case study and gets that exact PDF emailed to them without anyone on the Delta-Xero side clicking send) and a partner locator filterable by country. Both are the kind of build that a template site cannot support and a page builder will actively fight.

Moving a website between platforms is a specialism in its own right. The rebuild is the easy part. What takes the care is not losing what the old site had earned in search: mapping every URL that gets traffic to its equivalent on the new site, keeping the URL structure sensible where it can stay the same, updating internal links, then watching Search Console after launch and fixing what needs fixing.

CS Garden Offices came off Wix onto a fully custom build without losing Google Ads tracking - the campaign kept running against the old site until launch, then switched cleanly to the new URLs. Pro Sealants moved off WordPress-and-Elementor onto Shopify and made their first online sale within a week of launch. My Learning Cloud came off Elementor entirely onto a custom WordPress theme, saw courses page load times drop from over 12 seconds to under one, and monthly revenue climb 410 percent within months.
